VR Training in Pharma & Life Science
RealWorld One's platform addresses a core operational challenge in pharma and life science: training teams on complex, expensive equipment and regulated procedures without pulling that equipment or the trainee out of production. The SaaS layer lets training managers author, version, and deploy simulation content across global teams, while native XR applications deliver hands-on rehearsal of real device workflows: calibration steps, lab equipment handling, cleanroom protocols. Clients including Zeiss, Beckman Coulter, Tecan, and Bayer (via RealWorld One) used this to standardize training across sites, cut ramp-up time on new equipment, and reduce the risk and cost of learning on live instruments. Role, Responsibilities & Collaboration
Role & Responsibilities
I joined realworld one as a freelance Senior Designer in August 2021 and moved into a permanent Senior Designer role in the Design department through February 2024. My remit covered the full design cycle: sketches, wireframes, flow charts, storyboards, and interactive prototypes through to high-fidelity mock-ups for key features — always within defined parameters, and always optimized for usability and accessibility. Beyond individual features, I helped build the design language and design system that gave realworld one's products a coherent voice across VR and AR, and supported hiring as the design team scaled.
Team & Clients
I worked closely with developers — writing clear UX and UI component specifications and following implementations through to final execution to ensure design intent survived the build. User feedback was a constant input; my job was translating it into meaningful UX improvements rather than a backlog of requests. The work spanned realworld one's core verticals — life sciences, analytical, diagnostics and medical, pharmaceutical, chemical, and processing industries — across use cases in sales and marketing, service and support, R&D, and manufacturing and production, for brands including Zeiss.

Design Process
My design process at Realworld one ran the full arc from ambiguity to shipped build. Early-stage work meant analog and VR sketches, flow charts, and storyboards — thinking spatially from the start rather than translating flat screens into 3D after the fact. From there: wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity mock-ups for key features, each tested against usability and accessibility criteria rather than aesthetic preference alone. User feedback fed back in continuously; my role was turning raw input into meaningful UX decisions instead of a growing backlog of requests. Holistic UX meant looking past individual features to the connective tissue — building the design language and system that kept the SaaS platform and the native immersive applications coherent as one product, and writing clear UX and UI component specifications so developers inherited intent, not just visuals. I followed implementations through to final execution, because design that degrades in the build isn't design. As the team scaled, I supported hiring to extend that standard beyond my own output.
"As Shiva's direct manager for over two years at realworld one, I've had the privilege of witnessing her exceptional contributions firsthand. Shiva stands out not only for her dedication and analytical approach to XR design but also for her innate ability to lead and inspire those around her" Tim Zurmöhle Read more on Linkedin
